Unlike solid hardwood or even engineered wood flooring, laminate flooring is very thin and "unsolid" all by itself. So, you need to provide some extra cushioning and sound absorption properties to your laminate. Without laminate underlayment, your new floor would be hard on your feet; noisy; and would show sub-floor imperfections on the finish surface of your new floor.Underlayment is a necessary component for installing Laminate or Engineered Floors. An underlayment is placed over the subfloor before the Laminate or Engineered flooring is laid. Underlayment comes in various styles including foam, rubber, plastic or cork. Foam is the most common underlayment.

3 in 1 Foil Underlayment 3 mm Thick - 200 Square Feet per Roll - 28 Rolls per Pallet (5,600 Sq.Ft.) - 225 Lbs. per Pallet including skid Silver form/film underlayment is essentially the same as standard foam except that it has a moisture barrier attached to one side. The moisture barrier prevents moisture from getting into the flooring from underneath and potentially causing major damage. and so is the level of sound reduction, comfort, and sub-floor correction. Also like standard foam, combo underlayment is sold in various size rolls, depending on the manufacturer. Because of foam/film’s limited level of sound reduction, it should only be considered for base grade, or entry level, use. |
